Australia invoice template

In Australia, a business registered for GST usually issues a document called a tax invoice, which shows its ABN and the GST charged. This template opens set up for Australian dollars, A4 paper, GST at 10% and the title Tax Invoice.

What an invoice in Australia usually includes

  • The words Tax Invoice, if you are registered for GST
  • Your ABN and business name
  • The invoice date
  • A description of what you supplied, with quantities and prices
  • The GST amount, or a note that the total includes GST
  • The total price, and how to pay

This is a general guide, not tax or legal advice. Rules change and depend on your situation, so check with your tax authority or an accountant.

Questions people ask

Do I have to call it a tax invoice?

If you are registered for GST and the sale is above the threshold, the document generally has to be a tax invoice. If you are not registered, change the title to Invoice and set GST to 0. Check the ATO's current rules.

What is an ABN?

An Australian Business Number, which identifies your business. Put it in the tax number box with the label ABN.

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. The document is made inside your browser. Your business details and the last document are remembered on this device only, so you do not have to retype them, and you can wipe them with the link under the preview.
