UK invoice template
In the UK, an invoice is a legal record for your accounts, and if you are VAT-registered it also has to show your VAT details. This template opens set up for pounds, A4 paper and VAT at 20%.
What an invoice in the United Kingdom usually includes
- Your name or business name and address
- A unique invoice number, in a running sequence
- The invoice date, and the date of supply if it differs
- A description of what you supplied, with quantities and prices
- If you are VAT-registered: your VAT number, the VAT rate, the VAT amount and the total
- The total payable, and when and how to pay you
This is a general guide, not tax or legal advice. Rules change and depend on your situation, so check with your tax authority or an accountant.

Questions people ask
Do I have to charge VAT on my invoice?
Only if you are VAT-registered. Registration is required above a turnover threshold, and optional below it. Check the current threshold with HMRC. If you do not charge VAT, set the rate to 0 and leave the VAT number blank.
What are my rights if a business pays late?
UK businesses have a statutory right to interest and a fixed fee on late business payments. Our late payment calculator works out what an invoice is now worth.
Is anything I type sent to a server?
No. The document is made inside your browser. Your business details and the last document are remembered on this device only, so you do not have to retype them, and you can wipe them with the link under the preview.
