New Zealand invoice template

In New Zealand, a GST-registered supplier issues a tax invoice that shows its GST number and the GST charged. This template opens set up for New Zealand dollars, A4 paper, GST at 15% and the title Tax Invoice.

What an invoice in New Zealand usually includes

  • The words Tax Invoice, if you are GST-registered
  • Your name or business name and your GST number
  • The invoice date
  • A description of the goods or services, with quantities and prices
  • The GST amount, or a note that the total includes GST
  • More detail for larger amounts, such as the buyer's name and address

This is a general guide, not tax or legal advice. Rules change and depend on your situation, so check with your tax authority or an accountant.

Questions people ask

Do I need to add GST?

Only if you are registered, which is required once your turnover passes a set threshold. If you are not registered, set the rate to 0 and rename the document Invoice.

How much detail does a tax invoice need?

Small invoices need less, and larger ones need more, such as the buyer's details. Check Inland Revenue's current rules.

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. The document is made inside your browser. Your business details and the last document are remembered on this device only, so you do not have to retype them, and you can wipe them with the link under the preview.
