About this builder and contractor invoice template
Building jobs run for weeks and are usually paid in stages. Each invoice should say which stage it covers, and how much of the total is already paid.
What to put on a builder and contractor invoice
- Name the stage or milestone each invoice covers, and refer to the quote or contract.
- Show the total contract value and the amount already paid, using the Amount paid box.
- List variations (extra work) on their own lines and get them agreed in writing.
- Put payment terms on every invoice, and keep the dates.

How do builders invoice staged work?
Invoice at each milestone, and show what has been paid so far. Use the Amount paid box for earlier payments.
What are variations?
Changes to the agreed work. Record each as its own line, agreed in writing, so there is no argument at the end.
Is anything I type sent to a server?
No. The document is made inside your browser. Your business details and the last document are remembered on this device only, so you do not have to retype them, and you can wipe them with the link under the preview.
